Case Study: 003
Geomembrane Baffle Curtain

The Task
Our client needed to separate the liquid flow generated by two aerators within the same leachate treatment lagoon.

The Solution
F.L.I. Environmental proposed the use of a 2mm thickness HDPE geomembrane baffle curtain suspended from a stainless steel cable tensioned across the lagoon. The Geomembrane Baffle at the surface was wrapped around the suspended from an HDPE pipe designed to carry the stresses from the cable suspension.

At the lagoon base concrete anchor blocks placed on dense synthetic rubber protection pads above the liner were used to secure the baffle curtain base using a reinforced geomembrane/pipe design similar to that used at the surface.

General
Baffles are often used in portable water reservoirs and water treatment facilities to increase the flow path of liquid passing through the system. This ensures that all of the liquid entering the system is subject to similar treatment duration and that there is no short cut between inlet and outlet and also no untreated stagnant areas.
