GEOSYNTHETIC CLAY LINERS (GCL's)
GCL's are
high-strength bentonite composites which combine high-quality
geo-textile outer layers with an inner layer of low-permeability
bentonite clay. Bentonite is a natural sealant which activates
on contact with water based liquids. Upon hydration the
bentonite in the GCL swells to form a low-permeability clay layer with
a hydraulic conductivity less than 1 x 10ˉ9cm/sec.
As a result the GCL provides the same hydraulic protection as
several feet of compacted clay. GCL's can be used together with
goemembranes or by themselves, for a wide range of applications
including composite landfill lining and caps, liquid containment in
reservoirs, irrigation canals and industrial ponds and lagoons.
Applications
Landfill caps
Secondary containment for storage tanks, storm water and wastewater
retention
Composite lining systems for solid and hazardous waste landfills
Canals
Dams
Reservoirs/Ponds/Lagoons
